Overview

Which visa fits your plans?

Explore regular visit and residence categories and special UAE procedures. Authority, evidence and options depend on plans, nationality and emirate. GDRFA is particularly responsible in Dubai; ICP operates federally.

Visit visa

For limited trips such as holidays, family visits or market exploration. It provides neither permanent residence nor permission for regular employment.

Residence permit

For living in the UAE on a recognised basis such as company, work, family or qualifications. Emirates ID and any separate work permit form part of the process.

Entry eligibility, permitted stay, number of entries and expiry differ. A five-year tourist visa does not permit five uninterrupted years of residence.

Business & employment

Your company and residence, coordinated clearly.

Investor or shareholder residence through a company

For founders and shareholders arranging residence through a Dubai company. Free Zone residence often lasts two years; actual authority approval, zone and category control.

Normally requires passport, photo, active licence, company and ownership documents, immigration registration and visa capacity. Medical tests, insurance and Emirates ID follow during residence processing.

Why choose it? It links residence to genuine business activity, but formation alone grants neither a visa nor Emirates ID.

Licences and visas have separate deadlines

Licences often last 12 months, with multi-year options in some zones. Residence may differ. Establishment Cards, passports, Emirates ID and family visas need separate monitoring.

KCM coordinates dates and agreed renewals. Renewing a licence does not automatically renew your visa.

Employment residence: private sector, government and Free Zones

For valid UAE employment. The employer or Free Zone organises work and residence. GDRFA states two years for the private sector; other sectors follow their issued validity.

Requires an approved employment basis, passport, photo and residence evidence. Roles may require attested qualifications and professional licences. Employer changes require review of work permits, residence and dependent family.

Domestic workers and special employment

Domestic workers have separate employment and sponsorship procedures. Sponsor, work conditions, insurance and permits must match the specific route, distinct from business, visits and general employment.

Principles: Meydan Free Zone · GDRFA: private-sector employment residence.

Long-term options

Green Visa, Golden Visa and Blue Residency.

These routes require specific economic, professional or specialist qualifications and separate assessment. They do not follow automatically from company formation.

Green Residence for investors and partners: up to five years

For eligible investors or commercial partners without an employer sponsor. Requires a passport valid at least six months, photo, Trade License and articles or investment evidence, plus official approvals. Renewable if conditions continue.

Suitable for longer, independent residence. The preliminary Green entry permit allows completion within 60 days after entry; it is not yet five-year residence.

Green Residence for skilled employees: five years

Requires a valid contract or work permit, occupational level 1, 2 or 3, bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least AED 15,000 monthly salary. No personal employer sponsor, but employment remains required. Renewable while eligible.

Suitable for professionals seeking less dependence on one employer's sponsorship.

Green Residence for self-employed people and freelancers: five years

Requires MOHRE self-employment permission, a bachelor's degree or specialised diploma, and published criteria of at least AED 360,000 annual self-employed income in the preceding two years or sufficient solvency evidence. A freelance licence alone is not enough.

For qualified self-employed people with documented activity and financial viability. Renewal requires continuing eligibility.

Golden Residency: long-term investment and achievement residence

The current ICP guide states ten years for investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, specialists, humanitarian pioneers, outstanding students and graduates, talents and frontline heroes. Talent includes culture, art, inventions, sport and digital technology.

Public investments may require AED 2 million qualifying investment or ownership; property generally requires AED 2 million recognised value. Professionals and talents need category-specific qualifications, approvals or recommendations. An ordinary licence is insufficient.

For long-term stability without a personal sponsor. Category and Dubai practice determine validity, evidence and renewal. KCM prepares the appropriate basis; authorities decide.

Blue Residency: ten years for environment and sustainability

For exceptional environmental, climate or sustainability contributions, such as recognised experts, researchers or award winners, with documented achievements and required nominations.

Requires recognised achievements. General interest in sustainability or a related business alone is insufficient.

Living in Dubai

Remote work, family, study and retirement.

Virtual Work Residence: one year, renewable

For remote employment with an organisation outside the UAE. GDRFA requires proof, monthly income of at least USD 3,500 or equivalent, health insurance, photo and passport valid six months. Family sponsorship is possible for the corresponding period.

For temporarily moving to Dubai while continuing foreign employment. It does not authorise local UAE employment.

Family residence: spouses and children

For relatives of eligible residents. Regular sponsorship generally requires AED 4,000 monthly salary or AED 3,000 plus accommodation, suitable housing, relationship proof and sponsor residence documents. Certificates may require attestation and translation.

Regular rules allow sons up to 25 and unmarried daughters. Parents and others face additional conditions. Family permits depend on the sponsor; Green and Golden have specific rules. Residence alone does not replace a work permit.

For moving together. KCM plans applications and family renewals in sequence.

Student residence

For recognised universities or institutions, based on admission, enrolment and education authority approval. The institution or eligible parent sponsors. Validity and renewal follow the permit and continued study.

For longer study stays. Outstanding students and graduates may also consider Golden eligibility.

Retirement Residence: usually five years

For financially secure retirees. GDRFA's published page states age 55 or older and at least 15 years' prior work, with income or property/deposit routes. The income route states AED 240,000 annually and six months of bank statements.

The available Dubai route, current thresholds, insurance and evidence must be checked before applying. Different programmes should not be combined into a blanket promise.

Residence for property owners

Separate routes exist alongside Golden. Ownership, valuation, financing or paid share and financial viability are checked. Values and validity vary; KCM verifies the route before treating property as a visa basis.

For qualifying actual ownership. Offers or reservations alone do not grant residence.

Humanitarian and special family routes

Special categories cover humanitarian cases, widowed or divorced people and families of UAE or GCC citizens. Documented circumstances and specific rules apply; these are not substitutes for missing eligibility elsewhere.

For war or disasters, ICP states one-year residence under conditions; departure may end this special permit. KCM identifies the process and coordinates specialist help where needed.

Visits & entry

From your first trip to business exploration.

Visa on Arrival and entry without advance application

Availability depends on nationality, passport type and other residence rights; permitted stays differ by country. KCM checks before travel. German passport rules do not apply to everyone.

Tourist visas: single or multiple entry

GDRFA lists 30- or 60-day single and multiple-entry visas, generally sponsored by authorised tourism providers. Passport, photo and travel, insurance and financial evidence are required. Renewals need separate review.

For holidays and limited visits, without regular employment permission.

Five-year multiple-entry tourist visa

For repeated tourism without a local sponsor. GDRFA requires at least USD 4,000 balance or equivalent over the previous six months, statements, insurance, passport, photo and return/onward tickets.

Generally up to 90 days per year, extendable on application to a maximum of 180. Five-year validity does not permit permanent residence or work.

Visiting relatives or friends

Single or multiple entry according to the procedure. GDRFA lists 30, 60 or 90 days for single entry. Relationships, purpose, housing and finance must be documented.

ICP's September 2025 changes specify host salaries of AED 4,000 monthly for first-degree relatives, AED 8,000 for second/third degree and AED 15,000 for friends. These are visit rules, not general family residence rules.

Business Exploration

For market research and investment or formation discussions, potentially 60, 90 or 120 days without a local sponsor. Prepare passport, photo and investment or business evidence.

Since 2025 ICP requires suitable finances or relevant existing business or professional activity. This visa itself grants neither a business licence nor long-term residence.

Jobseeker: exploring employment

For eligible qualified applicants, usually 60, 90 or 120 days. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent, approved professional or university criteria and financial security. Eligibility must be checked beforehand.

For interviews and career exploration. Actual employment requires subsequent work and residence approvals.

Transit: 48 or 96 hours

For short stopovers. Airline and authority requirements apply; onward tickets and valid travel documents are central. No work or permanent residence.

Medical treatment and companions

For UAE treatment and separate companions where applicable. GDRFA offers single/multiple entry. Clinical confirmation and travel, insurance and finance evidence are needed. Duration follows approved treatment.

Study, training and temporary work assignments

Short learning stays require a suitable institution. Temporary professional assignments require the appropriate approved work/mission procedure. Purpose, host, evidence and duration must match; tourist visas are not substitutes.

New categories: AI, entertainment, events and cruises

ICP added four purposes in 2025: AI specialists with technology-host confirmation; temporary entertainment visits; events with invitations and duration; multiple tourist entries by cruise or leisure boat with itinerary and authorised provider.

Confirm duration and the available Dubai application route first. These do not automatically grant permanent residence.

Special procedures for truck drivers

Cross-border freight may use single/multiple entry with a transport host, required financial security and health insurance, based on the actual transport purpose.

Documents & costs

What you need for preparation.

Personal documents

  • Passport, valid at least six months for many applications.
  • Recent colour passport photo meeting requirements.
  • Existing visas, entry/UID details and Emirates ID where available.
  • Relevant proof: company, contract, income, investment, enrolment or family relationship.
  • Insurance and medical tests where required; adult residence applicants generally need medical screening.
  • Attested certificates, recognised qualifications and translations if needed.

Transparent cost planning

Official application fees may be only part of the cost. Status changes, medical tests, Emirates ID, insurance, security deposits, certification, translation and services may add fees.

KCM estimates scope beforehand. Costs depend on category, validity, application location, family size and urgency. Processing relies on complete documents and the authorities.

Renewal & deadlines

Keep your residence predictable.

Renewal requires the residence basis to continue. We check updates and related applications early.

Check before renewal

  • Passport validity and actual visa/Emirates ID expiry.
  • Active licence, employment, investment, family or other basis.
  • Current insurance, income and housing evidence where required.
  • Medical tests and Emirates ID procedure.
  • Dependent family members.

No universal grace period

Grace periods differ by category after expiry or cancellation. Green rules do not automatically apply elsewhere. Your status and current official rules control.

Long overseas stays may affect residence. Regular permits require checking absences over six months; category exceptions exist. KCM aligns travel and renewal plans.

Frequently asked questions

Clarity for your next steps.

Does formation automatically grant a visa?

No. Company, licence, visa capacity and personal residence are separate conditions and processes. KCM coordinates them.

Do I need a company for Golden, Green or Virtual Work?

Not generally. Each has its own basis. Company-based residence uses a company; Virtual Work uses qualifying foreign remote employment.

Can my family join me?

Many routes allow sponsorship under conditions, including relationships, housing, income and documents. Family visits are different.

Can I work on a visit visa?

Ordinary visit/tourist permissions do not allow regular employment. Required work authorisation must exist before starting.

Does a Dubai visa automatically exempt me from tax?

No. Residence rights, tax residence and taxation are separate. KCM coordinates qualified tax advice as needed.

Does KCM handle renewals?

Yes, agreed preparation and coordination for visas, Emirates ID and related company and family documents.
